DeleteKnowing About Priorities of Life…..
ReplyDeleteonce I was a very enthusiastic amateur photographer; too enthusiastic may be in retrospect. My daughter was a 3 year old bundle of mischief then and was the sole subject of my photographic experiments. I tried to photograph her in various poses but she would not stay focused for more than 10 seconds invariably ruining my photograph. I would scold her with blazing eyes and she would run into my wife's arms crying. My wife would admonish me while trying to placate her.
nevertheless this would go on and on and on until one rainy day…..
It was lightning, thundering and heaps of rain were pouring down that evening. My wife and daughter were sitting on the steps in our verandah looking at the rain and I was sitting behind them reading something, a book may be,
" Mother, I know what causes all this lightning and thunder "
Suddenly my daughter said, turning to my wife with her huge eyes shining brightly.
" The lightning comes when the god tales photos of his little, daughter "
She said with utter conviction
" And the thunder ? "
my wife asked looking over her shoulder at me.
" That’s the god scolding his daughter for not staying in one place so he can take a good photo "
I almost knew the answer but I had to ask.
" Then what's rain ? "
" That’s the daughter crying afterwards…"
She said in a small voice.
I couldn’t help my tears. With moist eyes I hugged them both and for a very very long time we stayed just like that.
Obviously after that day I was a changed man; I knew what are the most important things in life and I never did forget what my daughter taught me that rainy evening.
A really touching story Ravi Ayye. Thank you! :)
DeleteWanted to add some more to the sweet conversation of this happy family
.................
"Darling, then what is this cool breeze, blowing so smoothly?" Mother asked.
"Ha, that's mother's loving words to soothe her daughter!" Father answered before the daughter.
Little girl raised her head and smiled at her parents. "Do you know what happens after the rain is stopped?"
Her mother and father looked at each other, unable to find an answer. So the little girl continued. "Flowers will bloom, butterflies and birds will be everywhere... when the daughter forgets her sorrows and starts singing....."

DeleteA little girl walked to and from school daily. Though the weather that morning was questionable and clouds were forming, she made her daily trek to the elementary school. As the afternoon progressed, the winds whipped up and it started to thunder and lightning. The mother of the little girl felt concerned that her daughter would be frightened as she walked home from school and she herself feared that the electrical storm might harm her child.
Although it hadn't begun to rain, thunder and lightning began cutting through the sky. Full of concern, the mother quickly got into her car and drove along the route to her child's school. As she did so, she saw her little girl walking along, but at each flash of lightning, the child would stop, look up and smile. Another and another were to follow quickly and with each the little girl would look at the streak of light and smile. When the mother's car drew up beside the child she lowered the window and called to her, "What are you doing? Why do you keep stopping?"
The child answered, "I stop and smile because God keeps taking my picture."
